Project Summary
Rural youth account for around 55% of the worlds youth population. They are among the most disadvantaged of groups. And yet, resources and policies continue to be biased in favor of urban development. Youth living in disadvantaged rural areas are facing many difficult challenges in their everyday lives. Often young people in rural areas have limited access to educational programmes that are geared to their situation and needs – not surprisingly, many rural young people drop out of school at an early age. Based on the need analysis in countries involved in the project, education is often geared more toward academic accomplishments and to the urban areas than to learning skills useful to rural life, and preparing young people for adulthood. The unrecognized potential of young people in rural areas creates many problems and issues, including drug use, crime, high unemployment, low self-esteem and confidence, and migration to the cities. Currently this trend is increasing rather than diminishing. The low level of community involvement by young people from rural areas is both a result and a cause of the above mentioned issues. Many youth leaders and youth workers are facing challenges to engage young people in community life. Many are missing the proper tools, methodologies, approaches, knowledge, and skills of seeking opportunities to facilitate constructive changes in rural communities for engaging young people in activities and community life. Youth work can empower young peoples’ personal and professional development, increase active participation, and foster personal creativity. The project aims to develop youth work in rural communities by identifying the potential and increasing the capacity of young leaders living in rural areas to become active multipliers of community engagement. The project will also create opportunities for young leaders to get involved in policy making process – activating actual youth participation.project foresees following objectives:- To create the Space to share the best practices done in developed counties in terms of community development, Youth Work in rural areas by using innovative tools such as (NFE, RMA, positive physiology, creative thinking) – To increase the opportunities of rural young of peer to peer learning by organizing the mobility projects in rural areas. – To equip young leaders with necessary tools, creative methods and approaches to foster the community engagement- Increase the competencies of young leaders to deal with the challenges and changes in their communities by supporting their personal development using personal mentoring and couching;- To enhance the skills and competencies of young people to get engaged in policy development projects.
